Ahhh, spring. Warm breezes, budding Bradford pear trees, and chubby robins.
But now… there’s also the runny nose, itchy eyes, and puffy face. Is there a way for your family to enjoy the
warmth and bloom without all the suffering and allopathic drugs?
Absolutely! Understanding how to properly address hay fever with homeopathy will help you and your
children merrily transition through the seasons.
Since some allergenic agents can’t be avoided, it’s prudent to consider how our bodies react and
work from there.
Homeopathy is unique because it doesn’t treat the illness directly; it treats the person. That means five
people with hay fever will likely benefit from five different remedies, based on their specific symptoms or how the illness presents itself.
The proper remedy won’t just alleviate suffering—it can also reduce the frequency and intensity of those symptoms. Since homeopathy isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach, symptoms act as guides, helping us
choose the right remedy. We don’t suppress the symptoms; we use them to help select the correct
remedy, allowing the body to finish the work of healing itself.
So let your symptoms be your guide. Carefully observe them, just as you would follow a trusted guide
on a journey.
Here’s my go-to list of remedies for hay fever:
Just as every family member is unique, so are homeopathic remedies. Interestingly, the more specific the symptoms, the better!
Here’s the plan:
Once you’ve chosen the correct remedy, it’s generally given hourly if the symptoms are severe. If it’s just a
minor annoyance, the remedy can be taken once every 4-5 hours, daily, until you notice improvement.
When the remedy has worked, stop using it and only resume when symptoms reappear. If you know hay
fever is coming, the remedy can also be used as a prophylactic. In this case, the usual method is to take it
three times a day for two to three weeks leading up to the season.
Top remedies for hay fever:
Here are my top picks for the most commonly used remedies to try. Choose one and stick with it for at
least 2-3 days to see if there’s improvement. If not, try the next remedy until you find the one that works
best for you or your child. Once you’ve found the right remedy, use it judiciously—only when it’s needed.

This remedy is ideal for those who suffer from watery eyes and a runny nose. Both discharges are
abundant, with the nose running "like a faucet." The key differentiating factor is that only the nasal
discharge is corrosive, which irritates the skin around the upper lip and nose within a day or two of allergy
onset. Cold water on the face provides immediate, though short-lived, relief.
A great remedy for common hay fever symptoms, especially in the spring and summer. It helps with
intolerable itching of the eyelids, burning eyes, watery nasal discharge, and sneezing. It is particularly
useful when other remedies do not seem to fit.
When burning sensations are the primary symptom, think Arsenicum. Any discharge can be irritating and
burning. Interestingly, these burning pains are soothed by warmth. A warm drink will often relieve a
burning sore throat. Those in need of Arsenicum tend to feel cold, anxious, restless, and are often
fastidious.
4.Arundo 9: (from Tonya as a wet dose)
This remedy is similar to Wyethia. It’s useful for hay fever that starts with burning and itching of the palate
and eyes. The roof of the mouth and nostrils may itch, causing sneezing.
5.Badiaga 9: (from Tonya as a wet dose)
A great option for profuse, watery nasal discharge and sneezing. The discharge is irritating, and the
person finds relief with warmth—unlike Allium Cepa, who feels better with cold.
This remedy has a strong affinity for the eyes. While the nose may run, unlike Allium Cepa, the discharge
from the nose does not cause inflammation. Instead, the tears are corrosive, and the eyes are inflamed,
burning, and swollen. There may be a lot of sticky mucus, and a sensation like sand in the eyes.
7.Gelsemium 30:
Fatigue is the chief complaint for the Gelsemium case. The person feels too exhausted to move—not
because it hurts, but because it takes too much energy. A headache may start at the back of the head and
extend across the neck and forehead. They may also experience chills along the spine, and the face may
look droopy and dusky.
Although not traditionally thought of for hay fever, Kali Mur can be quite effective for sinus pain,
particularly when linked to barometric pressure changes. The pain often begins over the left eye or at the root
of the nose and can be quite intense. The pain worsens when stooping, and the mucus is typically
ropy or stingy.
9.Naphtalinum 6 (from Tonya in wet dose): or Nat Mur
This remedy helps with irritating discharge from the nose and eyes and can relieve long bouts of
coughing.
10.Nux Vomica 30:
The person is decidedly irritable. Everything upsets them. The discharge is dry during the day and watery
at night but doesn’t irritate the skin. This person is quite sensitive to odors and is often over-mentalized.
11.Sabadilla 9:
Copious, watery discharge from the nose and the eyes as in the remedies above. Spasmodic sneezing
with itching of the roof of the mouth, which compels the person to scratch it with her tongue. Over-
sensitive to odors.
A splitting headache related to hay fever that typically begins in the back of the head, and extends to the
right side of their head or to their right eye.
13.Wyethia 9: (From Tonya as wet dose)
Hay-fever symptoms with intense itching in the back of the nose and the roof of the mouth. Possible
tickling in the throat, causing a dry cough. These remedies can be a great tool to naturally address the
symptoms of hay fever and help your family transition through allergy season with more comfort. Choose
the remedy that best matches your symptoms and remember to use it as needed. Let homeopathy guide
your healing!
